Fire The Royalworks!

This work was premiered by the Royal Norwegian Navy Band conducted by Ingar Bergby in 2011. The occation was a big outdoor-concert (named ‚Firework Concert‘), and the work was written especially for this concert. The title itself is a kind of wordplay on Georg Friedrich Handel’s famous work ‚Music for the Royal Fireworks‘, a work and a composer Olav Berg admire. Musically, there are no relation to the Handel work or any kind of baroque music. However, in ‚Fire The Royalworks‘, Olav Berg has included shorter fragments from ‚The Firebird‘ (1910) by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. In this ballet music, Stravinsky includes Russian folk music once collected by another great composer, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
